This evening after getting home from church I had to go out and shovel the driveway. Clara came out to help, using a plastic bowl as a shovel. A car drove past on the road, and I told her to never go in the street without Daddy. This resulted in a cascade of “Why?”s where I explained that she could get hurt really bad, and need a bandaid, A big bandaid that they only have at the hospital. Towards the end of this great explanation another car started down the road and Clara interrupted me happily to say, “Daddy! Here comes another one! Can we do it now! Can we go to the hospital?!” Well, that parenting lesson totally backfired.
