Clara has been exploring the world of math recently. Simple addition is a particularly fascinating field of science that she seems to enjoy. She likes to jump into the middle of conversations and proudly point out the total number of the things we are discussing. Such as one glass of water for mom and one glass of water for dad to which she will point out that this means there will be two glasses of water. She has expanded her research to counting and inventorying various items in our house, and then letting us know how many there are of each. I woke up this morning with a little girl repeatedly jump kicking me in the nose. I believe she was saying something about how she had new slippers. Having only slept 4 hours at this point I rolled over and covered my head in a blanket. Shortly after this a construction project of some kind started up in the bathroom, and I had to try and prevent my children from spontaneously remodeling my house. It’s good to have my family back.
My family returns from their vacation tonight, after visiting Andrea’s grandparents in Ohio. So, I have been living alone for the past two weeks, and I must say I have learned a great deal about myself and the world in this brief time of isolation and self discovery. For example: 1. The turn table in my microwave rotates at exactly 18 seconds per revolution. So, it is best to cook a slice of pizza for two minutes, and then six additional seconds in order to have it finish pointing the same direction as it was when you put it in. Apparently not knowing which way my pizza will be pointing when I open the microwave door is something that causes me anxiety of an…
Little girls are so dramatic. I read the girls’ bedtime stories tonight using a fake Minnesota accent. Clara totally flipped out and could not handle it. She kept telling me to use the voice I used to talk to other people. When I told her that the fake accent was my real voice and my normal one was pretend she screamed, throwing herself backwards onto her bed and wailed, “You are destroying me!” I had to stop before she exploded into individual gears and pulleys. In her defense, it was a pretty awful attempt at a Minnesota accent and I was even starting to annoy myself in the end. I should maybe find a way to harness its obnoxious destructive power to defend our…
