“Lydia, come get in the car.”

A pair of pink shoes ran down the driveway and stopped outside my car door. “Why?” the shoes asked.

“What do you mean, why? We are going to leave. Get in the back and buckle up.”

The pink shoes squinted at me in the sunlight, “But where are we going?”

I squinted back and smiled, “Oh, Sweetheart. Haven’t you realized? Life is an adventure. We just dive into it. We go wherever the adventure takes us, and not even I know where that will be.” I poked the end of her nose.

“Oh,” she grinned, and then with a scrape of pavement the shoes twirled and shot away, but in half a second they returned. “Okay, yeah. But then where?”
