“Sometimes,” Clara told me from the backseat of the car, “when I meet someone new, I turn my face away from them for a second, and I try to make myself look like them. You know, my face and stuff. Then I make my face normal again and turn back around.” She smiled happily to herself and continued to watch out the window.
