It’s great how having children in grade school gives parents a second chance at learning all of the cool facts we missed the first time around. For instance, Clara told me yesterday evening that “everything looks bigger in the morning because our eyes grow in the night.” She peeled back both of her eyelids with her fingers, while she said this, as if that was essential to the explanation.
“Bigger?” I asked.
“Bigger!” she said, still prying her eyes open in the most frightening way possible.
“Okay, I don’t think that is true. But I am an old man, and I have forgotten many things in my lifetime. So, I guess we will just have to test this theory with science,” I grabbed her shoulders and pointed her at the stairs. “Go get ready for bed.”
She bound up the steps towards her room, “Yes! Science!”
Raising a seven year old is truly making me a smarter, more well rounded person. Or maybe it just seems that way this morning, because my eyes are so much bigger than they were last night.
